I was working at General Motors at the beginning of this year, and in looking for jobs in the area (SE MI), I applied to General Dynamics and got the job. Fortunately, I took a week off at GM instead of giving notice, since the first day at GD was *horrifying*. No one in that whole building was happy. In fact, about 1/3 of new hire orientation was spent discussing how time has to be billed in 6 minute increments due to government contracting regulations. I quit at the start of day 2 and went back to GM for a few months until something much better came along (barely in time to avoid their ugly layoffs). The whole place made the auto industry look nimble and incredibly competent, though ironically the entire new project was staffed by auto industry layoffs… Also had some discussions with Applied Intuition, which did not turn into an offer. They were better, but not incredibly impressive, and definitely way less friendly than the rest of startup world.

I’ve read good things about Anduril, but I’m curious if they actually strike a better balance than Applied or if they’re just 10% less shitty than GD. Either way, I’m not exactly impressed by the industry and I find that deeply concerning given the geopolitical situation.
